It was Monday Night Football in Sayville as Sayville hosted Sachem North in varsity girls flag football. Sachem North came into the matchup with a 0-4 record while Sayville looked to preserve their undefeated record of 2-0.
It was a crisp but clear early spring evening contest at Timothy J. Henck Memorial Field on Greeley Avenue. The Golden Flashes quarterback Olivia Moynihan started off the game running for a first down.
A few plays later, Moynihan was off to the races as she ushered her way for a 15-yard touchdown run, giving the Golden Flashes a 6-0 lead with just under 3 minutes into the contest. On the defensive side of the ball, Kyla Kastner and Caitlyn Schutte combined for a quarterback sack with 9:20 to go in the first half; then 6 seconds later Anielo Marino made an interception with 9:14 left.
At the conclusion of the first half, the Golden Flashes led 6-0. The score was upheld for the majority of the game until wide receiver Trinity Ricevuto reeled in a Moynihan pass and hustled to the end zone for a half-dozen points with 11:21 to go in the game.
Ava Vadyak’s versatility served as her forte. Vadyak seized an interception on defense, then shortly after, wide receiver Ava snagged a touchdown toss from Moynihan. Lindsay Dimenna snared a 3-point conversion, and the Golden Flashes were dominating 21-0. The final score was Sayville 21, Sachem North 6.
The purple and gold improved to 3-0 on the spring campaign and had a game vs. Riverhead Charter on Wednesday and will be the visitors Friday night vs. Wyandanch.
