Flying Dutchmen win another tournament

On Saturday, June 29, the West Sayville Fire Department Flying Dutchmen drill team continued their winning ways and emerged as victors in the 17th annual Selden Invitational Drill, held at Brookhaven Town Firemen’s Memorial Park in Ridge.

The Flying Dutchmen edged out their 11 competitors to earn top honors in the event with 27 points.  The Central Islip Hoboes placed second overall with 24 points while the North Lindenhurst Piston Knockers captured third place with 18 points.  The Miller Place Extinguishers placed fourth with 17 points and fifth was the Bay Shore Redskins with 13 points.

The victory marks the sixth time West Sayville has won the Selden Invitational Drill, the second victory for the Flying Dutchmen this season and the 194th victory in the team’s history.

The Flying Dutchmen compiled their points by placing second in Three Man Ladder (6.53 seconds) First in Motor Hook and Ladder Class B (5.42 seconds) Second in Motor Hook and Ladder Class C (8.95 seconds) First in Motor Hose Class C (12.81 seconds) Second in Motor Hose Class B (7.91 seconds) Fourth in Efficiency (9.67 seconds) and third in Buckets (21.50 seconds).

The 2024 Flying Dutchmen are coached by Frank R. Miller, Sr. and Robert Marra and comprised of Captain Daniel Tenney, Lieutenant Patrick Garrett, Louis Christensen, Janelle Foston, Kristy Hothan, William Hothan, Ryan Huguenin, Kyle Jackowski, Brian Marra, Matthew Marra, Michael Marra, Jake Massaro, Frank R. Miller, Jr., James Nolan, Robert Noonan, Joseph Quenzer, Richard Quenzer, Sean Schaller, Gary A. Schaum, Johnny Tafe, Ryan Tenney, Edward Tenney, Jr.
