No one can deny that the Bay Shore boys varsity basketball team had an epic season.
After winning the Long Island Class AAA Boys Basketball Championship against the Baldwin Bruins on Saturday, March 9, the team had a spotless, undefeated record of 24-0. The win earned them a spot in the state Final Four.
On Friday, March 15, the Bay Shore community gave the team a heart-warming, energetic send-off before they made the trip to Glen Falls for the semifinals. As the boys made their way through the hallways toward their buses, members of the Bay Shore High School’s band lined the hall, giving the team a musical, motivating send-off. Outside, members of the greater Bay Shore community lined the team’s path to their bus, shaking maroon-and-white pom-poms and cheering the student-athletes on.
During the NYSPHS AAA state semifinals, the Bay Shore Marauders took on the Niagara Falls Wolverines at Cool Insuring Arena at 2:15 p.m. During halftime, the Marauders were up 29 to 22, and the boys maintained their lead, triumphing with a final score of 56 to 42!
When the Bay Shore boys varsity basketball team went onto the NYSPHS AAA state championship the following day—held at Cool Insuring Arena in Glen Falls on Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m.—they were eager to complete their undefeated season with the title of New York State Champions. Despite their immense effort and inspiring hustle, the Bay Shore Marauders lost to Green Tech with a score of 79 to 63.
Even though the team was just shy of a state championship win, the team had a monumentally victorious season, having won their first Long Island Championship since 1981, and ending with a whopping 25-1 record.
“On behalf of the Bay Shore Athletic Department, we are unbelievably proud of the players and coaches for all that they accomplished this year,” shared a spokesperson from the Bay Shore Athletic Department. “The buzz in the community supporting the team was amazing. The watch parties over the weekend and the hundreds of people who traveled over 200 miles to cheer on the Marauders demonstrate the strength of our community. We truly appreciate everyone’s support of our boys!”
Of course, the Bay Shore boys varsity basketball team will once again vie for the state championship title next year. In the meantime, the greater Bay Shore community could not be prouder!
