Pat-Med pitcher Josh Knoth received the Carl Yastrzemski Award from the Suffolk County Baseball Coaches Association at the group’s banquet on June 12.
It’s the second consecutive year that Knoth, a senior, has won the award for outstanding baseball player in Suffolk County.
The last Pat-Med player to win the award was Marcus Stroman, in 2008. Stroman pitched for the New York Mets and is now a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs.
Knoth could be headed to the major leagues, too. He has committed to play college baseball at Ole Miss and is considered a possible first-round pick in the Major League Baseball draft, which starts July 9.
He went 7-0 with a 0.17 earned run average in eight starts this season, yielding only five hits and one run. He struck out 109 batters in 41.2 innings.
Knoth compiled a 17-3 record and a remarkable 0.90 earned run average during his career at Pat-Med. He tossed two perfect games in his career, including one this season.
