Get your tickets to the 50th anniversary celebration

On Thursday, July 18, the Moriches Bay Garden Club held their meeting at the Peconic River Herb Farm on River Road in Calverton.  We were greeted by Chris Spindler, who is the owner of the herb farm.  She gave us a brief history. 

The herb farm is on 13 acres. They have owned the property since 1987.  They live in the house on the property.  They started out very small.  Chris would grow herbs for herself and also sell what she didn’t use to help pay for the greenhouse they built.  In time, they added more gardens and a toolshed and gift shop.  They have several greenhouses with various plants and shrubs.  Chris credits her husband Mike for the beautiful layout of the farm.  Don’t be surprised if you find an unusual flower, shrub, or tree at the herb farm.  They consider themselves to be a boutique-style specialty plant nursery.  Chris and her husband Mike had no idea this beautiful spot would turn into what it is today. 

It is also a beautiful venue for weddings and other large and small special occasion parties. There is an open area for a tent, and there is a wedding arbor by the river. Over the years, the toolshed has become the private room for the bridal party to get ready for the wedding. 

They also have a stage to accommodate the bands that play on some Sunday afternoons.  I’ve been there and I can tell you, it is a lovely way to spend a late Sunday afternoon with some good friends, a little wine, and a little cheese. Don’t forget to bring your chairs.

After Chris spoke to us about the herb farm, we got down to business.  Our garden club’s 50th anniversary is approaching and there is much to be done.  It will be held at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches.  The date is Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., and the price of the tickets is $35.  To celebrate this occasion, we are having a tea, with tea sandwiches, scones, cake for dessert, and of course, tea.  One of the highlights of our celebration is the gift basket raffle.  Be sure to get there early.  There will be many beautiful gift baskets. 

We will also be entertained by Elvis! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Elvis will be in the building, and he will be ready to sing his heart out just for us. Don’t miss out on this exciting and fun community event for The Moriches Bay Garden Club’s 50th anniversary celebration.
