The third week of football rounds out with two victories and one close loss for the Suffolk County News’s coverage area. In Week 2, all three school districts had resounding wins against their opponents.

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT

WIN: 41-7, against Shoreham Wading River (away game, Sept. 28)

Coming back as last year’s Long Island Champions, the BBP Phantoms rank No. 1 in New York Division IV football, 14th in New York State, and No. 2 in Section 11 rankings, behind East Islip.

Head coach Michael Zafonte said, “Cooper Fuller had a great day, ran for over 100 yards with three rushing touchdowns, passed for over 100 yards with two passing touchdowns—that’s five touchdowns! He also had a key interception to set up an end of 1/2 touchdown.”

SAYVILLE

WIN: 28-10, against Comsewogue (away game, Sept. 28)

Keeping up with archrival BBP, the returning Long Island Champions are ranked No. 2 in New York Division III football, behind Garden City, and No. 3 in Section 11.

Head coach Reade Sands: “In the first quarter it was 0-0. We had a 3rd-10. Patrick Coan got chased out of the pocket, where Dylan Kent scrambled past a defender and Patrick hit him on the 12-yard pass, and he ran for the 55-yard touchdown pass.”

CONNETQUOT

LOSS: 0-8, against Ward Melville (away game, Sept. 29)

In the ultra-competitive New York State Division I category, Connetquot ranks 11th and 21st in Section 11.

This loss ended the winning streak that saw a blowout 41-0 win against Patchogue-Medford at their home opener and a tight game with Sachem North ending in 21-14.
