Family and friends recently gathered to congratulate Christopher George Dopfel and Ruelin Man-Martinez of Boy Scout Troop 205 on their recent joint Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

At the ceremony, councilman James P. O’Connor presented citations on behalf of the Islip Town Board to celebrate their achievements.

“I am incredibly impressed by the dedication, hard work, and leadership skills that have led Christopher George Dopfel and Ruelin Man-Martinez to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout,” shared C O’Connor.

Christopher’s Service Project was designing and constructing a permanent free standing COVID Memorial, with a roof. Christopher has served Troop 205 as the Troop Chaplain’s Aide and Assistant Patrol Leader.

Ruelin’s Service Project involved designing and renovating a garden near the front entrance of the East Islip Library. Ruelin has served Troop 205 as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Historian, Quartermaster, and Librarian. Both Christopher and Ruelin served as Troop Guides.

Christopher and Ruelin both graduated from East Islip High School in 2023. During their high school career, Christopher and Ruelin were consistently on High Honor Roll, AP Scholar Award recipients, members of National Honor Society, along with many other extracurricular activities and distinctions.

Currently, Christopher is a freshman at St. John’s University, in the Honors College, where he is studying psychiatry.

Ruilen is presently studying mechanical engineering as a freshman at Georgia Institute of Technology.

At the conclusion, O’Connor directly addressed the honorees.

“Your commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in our East Islip and Great River communities is truly commendable,” O’Connor praised. “I have no doubt that you will continue to excel and make a difference in whatever path you choose to pursue. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.”
