Joining Islip Town supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the town board at the June town board meeting were the outstanding players and coaches of the East Islip boys varsity lacrosse team.
The East Islip Redmen recently clinched their first Suffolk County Class B Lacrosse Championship in a remarkable fashion. With a commanding 12-5 victory over Smithtown West, the team showcased their exceptional skill and teamwork.
Under the leadership of coach Tom Zummo, the Redmen’s speed, vision, and flawless execution were on full display, leading them to their first county title.

At the town board meeting, the team was commended for their historic season and championship win.

“After coming so close last year, this victory is a testament to their dedication, camaraderie, and perseverance in pursuit of excellence,” said supervisor Angie Carpenter.

The Bay Shore High School Model U.N. Team has had a wildly impressive season, earning them recognition by supervisor Carpenter and the members of the town board at the June meeting as well.
This year, the team prepared rigorously for the prestigious New York City Model U.N. conference. After auditioning with speeches on Cuba’s diplomatic history, each student earned their spot and represented Cuba in various committees. They became experts on complex topics, writing detailed position papers and honing their skills in resolution writing, problem-solving, and public speaking.
At the conference, they met with actual Cuban U.N. delegates, gaining valuable insights. They worked tirelessly to address global issues, from prison neglect to renewable energy, negotiating with other representatives to reach resolutions.
The dedication, skill, and teamwork exhibited by the Bay Shore High School Model U.N. Team exemplify true excellence and diplomacy.

“We couldn’t be more proud,” shared club advisor Heather Niedzwiecki. “They competed against about 3,000 other students from across not just the country, but the world, and they took first place.”

“Their hard work and success bring pride to their school, community, and our town,” said supervisor Carpenter. “Please join me in congratulating
the Bay Shore High School Model U.N. Team on a fantastic and unforgettable season!”
