Mary Pontieri was recently sworn in as the Village of Bellport’s new village clerk.

“When mayor Veitch approached me, I felt the position of clerk would be a good fit,” Pontieri said.

“Mary is an amazing addition to the Village of Bellport staff,” said mayor Maureen Veitch of her new role. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, energy and leadership to the team and we are thrilled to have her here.”

Pontieri has worked for the New York State Assembly and the Village of Patchogue as clerk, and the Connetquot and Southampton school districts’ clerk for 22 years.

“Government and school districts are similar in serving their constituents and residents, and my skills complemented the position,” she said. “Mayor Veitch is doing an excellent job, but I bring an added understanding of the basic roles of government and know many of the offices and elected officials.”

Pontieri is also a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook and has been a Patchogue Theatre director, volunteer coordinator, secretary, treasurer, and fundraiser since 2001. She is also a member of the Great South Bay Lions Club and a past president.
