MLB bound- Milwaukee Brewers select Pat-Med’s Knoth in baseball draft

As a pitcher on the Patchogue-Medford High School baseball team, Josh Knoth was known for being someone opposing batters dreaded having to face.
The right-hander struck out 109 batters in 41.2 innings and gave up just five hits in his senior season, winning his second consecutive Carl Yastrzemski Award as Suffolk County’s outstanding high school baseball player.
Knoth’s fastball and curveball attracted the attention of pro scouts, who were a fixture at Pat-Med games this season. MLB.com rated him among the top 100 draft prospects.
Knoth’s baseball journey took a huge leap forward Sunday when he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 33rd pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft.
“Getting drafted is a dream come true and something I’ve worked for my whole life,” Knoth said in a text message through Pat-Med head coach Anthony Frascogna. “My first dream was to get drafted. Now it’s to make the majors.”
Knoth has a bright baseball future ahead, said Frascogna, who coached Knoth in high school and before that with the Pat-Med Raiders youth baseball team.
“The sky’s the limit,” said Frascogna, who was with Knoth and his friends, families and former teammates on Sunday at a draft party at Knoth’s uncle’s house when Milwaukee announced its pick.
“His numbers are pretty consistent with what Major League pitchers are doing now,” Frascogna said. “He’s got good control and he’s definitely got the work ethic to make it.”
Knoth, who is just 17, is one of six players Frascogna coached to sign Major League contracts.
They include current Chicago Cubs starter Marcus Stroman; Anthony Vega, who was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2012; Junior Mendes, selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013, Matt Vogel, drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2013 and Brad Mound who signed with the Mets organization as a free agent in 2022.
