This year, William’s Chalk the Walk’s eighth annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Blue Point Preserve.
A day of celebration, the event is “full of art, family, friends, music, and love,” according to the community organizers.
Hundreds of attendees design their 4-foot-by-4-foot area of sidewalk with chalk pastels with creative drawings, inspirational sayings, and hopeful messages.
Local businesses donate raffle prizes and DJs set the background with food trucks available.
The goal of Chalk the Walk is to raise money for pediatric brain cancer research in an effort to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients by donating art supplies to pediatric cancer units and by creating individualized art therapy kits for children suffering from cancer.
Chalk the Walk is hosted by William’s Warriors, which started in 2017, following the tragic loss of 6-year-old William Schultz after a rapid, hard-fought battle with medulloblastoma.
Medulloblastoma, a fast-growing, high-grade tumor, located in the cerebellum, the lower, rear portion of the brain, had claimed William’s life at the young, tender age of 7, following complications related to high-dose chemo with stem cell rescue.
A turtle sculpture was installed in the preserve to honor William’s memory, and in the Indian summer sun, was a favorite play spot for young children.
