2020 fire commissioner election results

Fire districts across Long Island held their annual elections on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Below are the compiled results.

Blue Point

Incumbent Walter E. Dunn III was re-elected with 45 votes to another five-year term. Dunn has served several five-year terms as a fire commissioner and is a lifetime resident of Blue Point. He has served as a member of the Blue Point Fire Department since 1988, including two years as chief of department. The Town of Brookhaven employs him as a senior fire marshal. There were no resolutions or propositions on the ballot.

Bellport

The district’s current chairman David Sponton was re-elected with 37 votes for another term. He ran unopposed. There were no referendums or resolutions on the ballot.

Brookhaven 

Firefighter Pete DiPinto took the five-year seat from incumbent Richard Bressler by 123 votes to 36.

Hagerman

In a heated election, Mike McKasty was elected to a five-term seat vacated by Tom Bilka. He won by one vote (278 to 279) over contender Dane Hartmann, former member and ex-chief of the Bellport Fire Department. McKasty has over 40 years of volunteer experience and is a former FDNY member. There were no resolutions or referendums.

Medford

Assemblyman and longtime member of the Medford Fire Department Joe DeStefano was re-elected to another term. He ran unopposed. There were no referendums or resolutions on the ballot.

Patchogue

Ryan Murphy was also re-elected to another five-year term with 38 votes. He ran unopposed. There were no resolutions or referendums.

Mastic

Incumbent Mike Malone was re-elected and ran unopposed. There were no referendums or resolutions.

Mastic Beach

Incumbent Mike Montella was re-elected. He also ran unopposed. There were no referendums or resolutions on the ballot.
