Planning board member appointed as new trustee

On Monday, August 14, mayor of Patchogue Village Paul Pontieri appointed Kevin Weeks as a trustee to fill former trustee Patrick McHeffey’s vacated seat.

Weeks served on the Patchogue Village planning board for the past 23 years, filling in, at times, for the chairman John Rocco. He is also the owner of one of the oldest surviving boat-yards, Frank M. Weeks Yacht Yard, located in Patchogue.

“Serving on the Planning Board for the last 23 years has been one of the highest honors and privileges of my lifetime, and now I look forward to new and different ways to serve the community,” he said. “I am humbled by the confidence and trust the mayor and my fellow trustees have placed in me, and I look forward to earning that same confidence and trust from my neighbors and all of the people of Patchogue. “

McHeffey stepped down earlier this summer on June 26. He decided to step down after being given the chance to move to East Moriches with his family. He cited the decision as a “tough choice,” though he was proud of his time with the village.

At that time, Pontieri said the board was seeking current members of village boards with experience to fill the vacated seat.

“When you look for trustee for the village board the criteria is simple… trust, loyalty and experience. Kevin Weeks exhibits all of these. He has served as a trusted member of the Village Planning Board for 23 years,” Pontieri said of the appointment. “Week’s Boat Yard has been on the Patchogue River for over 130 years. I look forward to working with Kevin to make Patchogue Village a better place for the next 130 years!”

During his swearing in, Weeks also resigned from his post on the planning board. He will now fill McHeffey’s term and will be required to run for his seat in the upcoming 2024 March Election.
