Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel will host a community youth baseball clinic at First Responders Field in the Village of Islandia that will feature several former New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates players. The clinic, which is free and open to the public to attend, is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15. It will take place today, Thursday, Aug. 8, from 6-8 p.m. at the field. Delaware North, which operates Jake’s 58, donated $1.5 million to help fund the construction of First Responders Field in 2017. The ballpark, named in honor of five local residents and volunteer firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, opened in spring 2018 and features a state-of-the-art ball field for youth and community baseball and softball games, as well as a concession stand, playground and perimeter walking/running path with 10 different exercise stations. The concession stand will be open throughout the event. Jake’s 58 and Delaware North are donating the proceeds from the concession operation to the USO.
