The Suffolk County Department of Public Works will be hosting a public meeting scheduled for May 12 via ZOOM. The informational meeting will be to discuss an update on the replacement of the Smith Point Bridge over Narrow Bay carrying the William Floyd Parkway. The virtual public meeting will include a presentation with an update on the status of the project and proposed design chances including a protected shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists and a new fishing pier to be constructed under the bridge. The existing bridge is approximately 1,220 feet long and connects the mainland end of the parkway with the Smith Point Park on Fire Island. The project is being funded in part with money from the Federal Highway Administration. Since the public meeting held in 2016, several components have changed.
Following the meeting there will be a Q&A session where members of the public will be permitted to ask questions.
