Undefeated Phantoms move up to No. 1 in league!

Posted

The Phantoms have now moved up to the No. 1 spot in their league after winning their fourth game against Kings Park this past Saturday, Oct. 1, with a final score of 35-7. This is the fourth consecutive win for the undefeated Bayport-Blue Point this season, who had a heartbreaking loss in last year’s Suffolk Championship game.

BBP director of physical education, health, and athletics in the district said the success of BBP’s undefeated varsity football team is a “[a] program [that] is a testament to our youth organization and coaches.”

“They have done a tremendous job of providing our young student-athletes with the necessary tools to be successful in the sport of football. Our coaching staff has done a tremendous job of honing and expanding on those skills and instilling the importance of hard work in the off-season in order to gain success during this season,” Mullins said. “Coach Zafonte and staff have done an exceptional job of putting the best possible product on the field each week and have our student-athletes ready and prepared to compete.”

Zafonte attributed the team’s roaring successes to a veneration and exemplification of teamwork.

“The team has embraced the ‘team first’ mentality and has been giving uncommon effort in preparation and practice.  They are a great group of young men to coach,” said Zafonte.

Of particular note in exemplifying teamwork through leadership were the seniors of the team, according to Zafonte.
