The Last Chance Animal Rescue, based in eastern Long Island, held an adoption event at the Sayville farmers’ market on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Three dogs from South Carolina were adopted that day including: Rolo, a 5-month-old from Georgetown; Bud, a 1-and-a-half-year-old from Chesterfield; and Fella, a 5-year-old also from Georgetown.
Rolo, pictured at left, was adopted on his new dad’s 26th birthday, who said he “fell in love” with him.
Fella was renamed Arlo and now resides in Sayville.
Bud will soon be making his journey to his forever home in Boston.
Last Chance Animal Rescue is a charitable, not-for profit 501(c)(3)organization, created to save the lives of animals.
Typically, they rescue animals that are located in “kill” facilities and underwrite the costs of relocating them to “no-kill” facilities and foster homes in hopes of finding them a forever family.
The organization works with veterinarians for spay-neuter and provide other medical services until permanent placement is secured into a pre-screened home.
“We depend on your donations to continue to save these helpless loving animals from being killed. As a faithful friend, you can support our ongoing mission to save as many lives as we can. We are grateful for our dedicated community of adopters, fosters, volunteers, sponsors and supporters. Without you, we could not achieve our lifesaving mission,” said a representative for the organization.
Founded by Whitney Knowlton in 2008, Last Chance Animal Rescue is a volunteer-based nonprofit whose focus is to rescue animals located in “kill” facilities trapped on death row in rural shelters still using inhumane methods of killing such as gas chambers or heart stick.
Their adoption program has successfully found homes for over 10,000 cats and dogs since December of 2008. Their Middle Mutts Program has saved over 15,000 cats and dogs since March of 2011.
