The Blue Point Fire District put forth a bond vote of $2.2 million that was passed by the community on Tuesday, March 14.
Out of the 74 ballots cast, the overwhelming majority (67) voted in favor of passing the bond request.
Commissioner Walter Dunn said, “The board of fire commissioners has been very fortunate over many years to have the support of our community as we work to provide our neighbors with the best fire protection possible and our volunteer firefighters with the firehouse, equipment, and training they need to do the job as safely as possible. We are grateful for that continued support.”
Echoing Dunn’s sentiments, chief of the department Sean Meehan, said, “Our volunteer firefighters joined this department and continue to give their time day in and day out, in order to protect their neighbors in our community. The continued support of our neighbors in maintaining a safe and functional firehouse to work out of is greatly appreciated.”
President of the Blue Point Civic Association, Jason Borowski, said the items included in the bond “weren’t extravagant, but consisted almost entirely of maintenance items for the fire house.”
He said, “I’m happy to see that Blue Point residents came out to support a group that works hard every day to keep our community safe.”
