Man arrested in connection with middle-school students ingesting marijuana

Suffolk County police arrested a man who provided a middle-school student with cannabis Gummies, which were then distributed to more than a dozen other teens in March.

Following an investigation Narcotics Section detectives and Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers into 13 William Floyd Middle School students ingesting cannabis gummies on March 3, investigators obtained information about the man who provided the gummies to the student who distributed them to fellow students.

Investigators executed a search warrant at 66 Van Buren Street in Mastic and seized cocaine, cash and evidence of narcotics sales.

Breiner Mayen-Balcarcel, 20, and Carlos Mendez-Aviles, 21, both of 66 Van Buren Street, were arrested at the residence. Wilmer Castillo-Garcia, 22, of 106 Bedford Avenue, Mastic, was arrested outside his residence.

Castillo-Garcia was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance 3rd degree, two counts of unlawful sale cannabis or concentrated cannabis, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child for supplying the middle-school student with marijuana gummies.

Mayen-Balcarcel was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance 3rd degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree. Mendez-Aviles was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree.

Castillo-Garcia and Mayen-Balcarcel will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on May 28. Mendez-Aviles will be arraigned at a later date.
