Bayport

The Bayport Fire Department held their annual ceremony at Memorial Park on Monday at 11 a.m. Bob Draffin, president of the Bayport Civic Association, is once again the MC for this event. Pastor Sejin Cha of the Bayport United Methodist Church led in the blessing. The parade went a couple of blocks west of the park on Middle Road and Connetquot Avenue. The Bayport-Blue Point marching band provided musical entertainment, as will a pipe band. Then the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce, Community Ambulance, The Bayport-Blue Point Historical Association, and Bayport Civic Association laid wreaths at the memorial.

Bohemia

The Bohemia Fire Department and American Legion Post 1146 held their annual Memorial Day Parade and Services on Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m.  The parade ended at the John Pearl School for a memorial service at the Veterans Memorial. After the completion of the service and the placing of the community wreaths, the parade proceeded down to the Bohemia Fire Department for another service.

Sayville

The parade kicked off at 9. There were Sayville High School marching bands and bands as far as Long Beach that took part in the parade. The NYS Senator Alexis Weik, NYS Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo,  Suffolk County Legislator Anthony Picirillo and Town of Islip Councilman John Lorenzo, and Chamber President Eileen Tyznar all spoke at the wreath dedication ceremony at Sparrow Park. The officials and chamber presidents spoke about the true importance of what the day is about and about the sacrifices of the servicemen and women who lost their lives and also reiterated the families that also experienced the many losses. “This Memorial Day Parade and the ceremony afterwards, we were reminded of all the sacrifices that were made to award us the freedoms we have today,” Tyznar said. “Living in this beautiful community and seeing so many people come out in a show of remembrance of such magnitude was so moving and patriotic.”
