Lioness Club hosting 17th annual walk

Money raised will help club sponsor 30th guide dog puppy

On Sunday, May 23, the Patchogue Lioness Lions Club and their sponsors will be strutting their stuff in their yearly Walk for a Guide Dog.

With donations from walkers, the Lionesses strive to sponsor their 30th puppy from The Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s walk will be a more virtual affair. All walkers are asked to walk two miles from their homes to ensure everyone’s safety.

“The walk always seems to hold up,” said Louise Ebert, co-committee chair of the walk.

This year, the Lionesses will be honoring the Lions Club of Patchogue for “their contributions to the community the past 74 years.”

When the Patchogue Lionesses first formed in 1983, the Patchogue Lions Club sponsored them. The Lions Club served as a mentor for the young club and showed them the ropes.

Bob Silver, current president of the Patchogue Lions Club, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming walk and thanked the Lionesses for their support.

"We're super proud to be supporting the Patchogue Lionness Club in this and really honored they chose the Patchogue Lions Club to be honored in this way," Silver said.

Anyone looking for more information on the walk should contact Louise Ebert at 516-647-5453 or Lari at 631-475-0070.
