Islip High School’s varsity wrestling team captured the League VI tournament championship on Feb. 4, held at Kings Park Middle School. The contest was notable for outstanding performances by four individual first-place winners: Cody Costello (189 lbs.), Kevin Horner (102 lbs.), Juan Pantaleon (285 lbs.), and Jared Spahn (138 lbs.). Fourteen Islip wrestlers also qualified for the Suffolk County Wrestling Championships and represented Islip at the tournament on Feb. 13 and 14.
“Congratulations to our coaches, wrestlers, and parents, on a great season and wrestling an amazing tournament,” athletic director John Sparacio said.
