Hundreds expected at spaghetti dinner

Fundraising proceeds help ‘leadership skills’

Bayport-Blue Point BSA troops 329 and 130 will be hosting the 24th annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser at the Blue Point Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

While there are no scheduled serving times, attendees are encouraged to allow others to enjoy the dinner by exiting promptly after dessert (which will be sourced from local bakeries).

Tickets are $10 each and all scouts will be selling to the community. If you would like to donate money but cannot attend the actual dinner, the troops are donating unused but purchased tickets to local food pantries for individuals in need.

The meal includes spaghetti and meat balls, bread, salad, soft drinks, coffee, tea, and dessert.

Parents of scouts are in charge of food preparation and scouts will be seating patrons as they come in, serving different courses, and cleaning up table settings.

Proceeds for the annual fundraiser go towards maintaining troop equipment, badges, and weekend camping trips throughout the tri-state area.

“We’ve gone to a high adventure camping trip in Key West and the fundraising money helped scouts whose families weren’t able to afford the cost on their own,” said Rob Allen, committee chairman of Troop 329.

“Throughout all these activities, the boys do life skill adventures, leadership skills, and they incorporate all those qualities in a fundraiser where they have to go grocery shopping, distribute food, and cook,” said Allen.

“The funds are for essential scout activities, not to go to the movies,” said Allen.

In past years, hundreds of attendees have come to the firehouse, with over 600 tickets sold and about 400 in attendance for the actual dinner.

About 25 to 30 scouts will be on hand for the dinner.
