Find your furry Valentine

Town of Brookhaven offers free pet adoptions for February

Love can be found in a lot of places, but during COVID times those places have certainly been limited. Still, there is one love that is promised, supervisor Ed Romaine said, and that is the love of an adopted pet.

Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter is currently offering free adoptions as part of their “My Furry Valentine” promotion. All adopted cats and dogs come with free neuter/spay, vaccinations, microchips, flea and fecal testing and a heartworm test.

“This is the perfect time to open your heart and bring home a furry bundle of love,” Romaine said, contesting firsthand to the unconditional love of a pet with his three pups, one of which he recently adopted: Lucky, a toy poodle-bichon mix. “You’ll fall in love with them, and most dogs return that love.”

The shelter is currently well under capacity with fewer than 40 dogs; pre-COVID, the shelter housed over 100 at one point in time.

“We would encourage anyone looking for a friend and someone to love to think about adopting a dog at the shelter,” Romaine added. “No dog wants to spend his life in a cage.”
