On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Wertheim will be hosting a free “Tick Talk.” The presenter, Gerry Simons, is a well-regarded expert in the field of tick-borne illnesses, treatment and prevention. The event will be held at the refuge in Shirley from 10:30 a.m. to noon. They will also be hosting their annual fundraiser hosted by Friends of Wertheim. The Oct. 11 celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week is part of their Find Your Wild campaign. Join them for a Walk for the Wild 5K challenge! Visit the refuge anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Oct. 6 through Oct. 11. Friends of Wertheim members and other volunteers will be happy to guide you through the interactive visitor’s center, provide information about the diversity of flora and fauna on the refuge, and offer you healthy refreshments and snacks. Scan the QR code to link to the registration and donation page.
