MORICHES BAY GARDEN CLUB

Celebrating 50 years

Posted

The Moriches Bay Garden Club celebrated its 50th anniversary on Sept. 19 at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches. I am happy to say it was very successful.  Our guests enjoyed a variety of teas and tea sandwiches, scones, cookies, and a champagne toast with our cake.

It was a beautiful day, and everyone was able to enjoy the scenic view of Kaler’s Pond from the dining room.  Tom Chieffo, president of the camp board, gave our guests a brief history of the camp.

We had a very special guest appearance by Elvis, who entertained everyone with many of his hits: “Hound Dog,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Teddy Bear,” “All Shook Up,” and many more.  I think it’s safe to say that Elvis was a big hit!

After Elvis finished his performance, it was time for our gift basket raffle.  There were more than 40 gift baskets.  They were beautiful, and many guests went home with something special.

Some of our members helped set up the room, and some stayed and helped clean up after the event.  Thank you to everyone who participated.

I also have to give a shout-out to Jesse Watson, superintendent of grounds, and his crew at the camp for having everything ready for us and for making the afternoon go as smoothly as possible.

Our Garden Club will attend a holiday luncheon at Trumpets in December and we’re already thinking about next year’s gardens.  All are welcome to join us for any of our meetings. For more information contact Debbie at (631) 878-4750, or (631) 258-3657, or email her at debgcan@gmail.com.
