After over five years with the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area, executive director Sybil Mimy Wells will be stepping down to accept a position at the United Way New York City as the vice president of justice and opportunity.

“I will be responsible for developing the organization’s justice initiatives and working closely with the Mayor’s Office, government stakeholders, and community leaders in this work. I am excited to begin my new journey but will miss my club members and families. Thank you for your support, and I wish you all the best,” she wrote in an announcement. “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity I was given to serve our youth and community in so many ways.”

BGCBA board member Fred Combs Sr, executive director of the Bellport Hagerman East Patchogue Alliance Inc., who has worked with club’s families for many years, has been appointed as interim director while the board conducts a search for Wells’s successor.

“Fred is ideally suited to this role and we are delighted to know that the club staff and members will be in good hands during this transition,” said Lisa Anderson, board of directors chair.

He will be taking the helm on April 23.
