BBP basketball triumphs!

The Anthony Parlato Tournament, named after the former vice president of the Moriches Community Center, was hosted by Center Moriches High School on Dec. 28 and 29.

Both the varsity and junior varsity Bayport-Blue Point basketball teams were victorious.

The BBP JV beat Hauppauge, 55-51. With six minutes to go, the team was down 7 points when Cormac Love (scoring 14 points) and Logan Ellis (scoring 7 points) each hit a pair of 3-point shots to fuel the comeback.

Sophomore point guard Connor Curren led the game with 15 points and 10 assists, while fellow sophomore and center Evan Wallbauer contributed 9 points and 11 rebounds. 

Freshman Aiden Apicella hit two critical free-throws in the final minute to seal the victory for Bayport.

The junior varsity team now moves to 5-1, having lost for their first time in 35 games at Mt. Sinai on Dec. 16, 48-43. 

The varsity team beat Roosevelt High School from Nassau County in the semifinal, 64-56.  

At halftime, the team was down 2 points at and then came out and scored 38 points in the second half.  In total, the team made 10 3-pointers, led by Robby Maurer, who made six of the 3-pointers, totaling 22 points for the game.  

Tully Campbell had 19 points, six assists, and Mike Kiernan added 15 points.  

In the championship game against Bridgehampton, BBP varsity won 80-45, led by Tully Campbell, who was the tournament MVP with 23 points.  Mike Kiernan made five 3-pointers and had 18 points.  Brady Clark had 9 points and led in rebounding with 24 rebounds in two games.  

The varsity team is now 6-1 and one of the top teams in the Eastern Division in Conference A.  Four players have scoring averages in the double digits, including: Tully Campbell, 22 points per game; Mike Kiernan, 15.2; Robby Maurer, 13.4; and Dylan Craig, 10.8.
