Local libraries are a great place to  spend time during the summer. They’re  a place to cool off, relax, and enjoy  some great programming. The Bay  Shore-Brightwaters Library has great  educational and fun events for children  and adults alike. ADULT PROGRAMS 

Senior Fitness (BBA102) – Tuesdays -  

June 21 through Aug. 23.  

The fee for this class is $24. Instructor  

Joy Walker will teach this class which is  designed to help you maintain flexibility  and strength. This class is suitable for  everyone. 

Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies at  2:30 p.m. A Selection of the 2021 and  2022 Oscars Best Picture Nominees  June 22 – “The Father” (2020) July 13 –  “Promising Young Woman” (2020) June 29 – “Judas and the Black Messi ah” (2021) July 20 – “Belfast” (2021) July 6 – “Minari” (2020) July 27 – “Drive  My Car” (2021) 

June 27 – Monday – Registration begins  for the Adult Summer Reading Club. This will go through Aug. 12. With  each adult-level book you read or listen  to you have an opportunity to win prizes  from one of four raffle drawings. Reg ister online and receive a password to  submit raffle entries for each title that  you read. 

June 27th – Young Adult Summer Reading  Club begins 

This is for students entering sixth  grade and up. Log on to ReadSquared  and keep track of all your books online.  Reading one book a week will enter you  into our weekly drawing to earn cool  prizes. 

June 27 – Monday – Summer Reading  Club 2022: An Ocean of Possibilities  begins. 

Last week’s roundup of some of the  local historical books I have read had a  great response, so I wanted to highlight a  few more that have caught my attention.  Long Island and the New York region has  such great local history that is fascinat ing to learn more about and explore.

Paint Nights (BBA119) – Wednesdays  from 6:45 – 8:15 p.m. Adult Class July 6 – Sunset at the Beach 

July 20 – When Life Gives You Lemons,  Paint 

July 27 – Summer Blooms 

Join us for a fun night of painting. No  painting experience is necessary. There  is a $10 material fee payable by cash only. 

Payment is due the day of the class.  Limit of 25 people. 

July 12 – Tuesday at 7 p.m. – Summer  Floral Arrangement (BBA121) 

Florist Heather is back to make a beau tiful wild flower arrangement with you.  You will be able to take your creation  home. There is a $15 material fee due  the night of the class. Limit of 15 partic ipants. Bay Shore-Brightwaters library  card holders only. 

July 14 – Thursday at 7 p.m. – Disco Night  With DJ Nick (BBA123) 

Hey everybody, get off your seat and  on your feet and hustle on down for  the disco beat, featuring music by the  Tramps, Bee Gees, Donna Summers and  more! 

July 16 – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30  p.m. - Electronics Recycling (BBA103)  Bring your used computers, cell  phones, laptops, tablets, servers, wire  and amp; cable, metals, circuit boards,  printers, hard drives, storage devices  and batteries. No CRT old tube televi sions, monitors or flat screen TVs. No  garbage or wood. The bin will be located  in the library parking lot. 

July 16 – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring all of your confidential docu ments for onsite shredding while you  watch via closed circuit video. The shred ding truck will be located outside in the  Library parking lot. Limit two bags of  paper per vehicle. No CDs, DVDs, X-rays,  plastic metal, etc. 

July 20 – Wednesday from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m. – Catholic Health Community  Outreach Bus (BBA114) 

This outreach program provides  blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass  index, and glucose screenings along with  patient education and referrals as need ed. 

Parking lot WiFi availability 

The library has added new access  points to improve WiFi availability out side the building. To utilize this expand ed coverage, connect your device(s) to  the new BSBW Outdoor WiFi network.  The network should be reachable from  anywhere in our parking lot. 

DISPLAYS FOR THE  MONTH OF JULY 

Outside Showcase – Summer Fun at  the Library – come see what we are offer ing patrons young and old this summer. 

Inside Showcase – Susan Jaskulek is  a designer of window displays for retail  stores. Come see some of her original  paintings, cards and collages. 

Gallery – According to the artist,  LUCIN, “Art is an expression of our  most intimate thoughts and feelings.”  This living process through art is a step ping-stone to the journey of discovering  the self. n
