The soup was on this past Saturday as participants came to Main Street for the annual soup contest. Soups were judged blindly by participants who were only made aware of what category of soup they were eating: Block Island chowder, New England chowder, butternut squash, or split pea. This year’s winner was Avino’s Italian Table, who served up a potato and corn chowder.
For John Hannon, president of the Bellport Chamber of Commerce, the soup contest is a village tradition he’s happy to see return.
“Last year we couldn’t do the soup tasting because of COVID, but this year it’s more crowded than I’ve seen it in the past couple of years. It’s great to have it back again this year,” said Hannon.
