16th annual Miracle on Main takes over Sayville

The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 16th annual Miracle on Main from 5 to 9 p.m., with a parade at 10 a.m. and Winter Wonderland (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), this Saturday, Nov. 26, coinciding with Small Business Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

The holiday parade includes participants throughout the various industries and social clubs in the community.

The emblematic trolley will run up and down Main Street, ferrying shoppers to and from designated stops, complete with holiday decorating. Over 70 stores throughout West Sayville and Sayville have signed up and are offering specials.

In the Cornucopia parking lot, the ice-skating rink will be set up for those looking for a mini Rockefeller Center photo, along with face painting, sand art, and an old-fashioned carousel.

Rounding out the holiday cheer will be live reindeer, ice sculptures, Dickens characters, a Lego display, and a gingerbread house competition.

The tree lighting at Sparrow Park will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the festivities will continue until 9 p.m.

This year, the chamber decided to “go green” and purchased a 20-foot artificial branch tree.

“After 15 years of going door to door, starting in July, we weren’t able to find the right tree and decided to be environmentally friendly this year,” said chamber president Eileen Tyznar.

The trees of years past have been 20 to 30 feet, and two more panels of 4 feet each will be added to the tree in the next two years.

A garage at the Chamber House will hold the tree after the holidays.

In addition, new 4-and-1/2-foot snowflakes were purchased for lining Main Street and South Main Street, as well as new pine wraps for the lamp posts.

Chamber members began decorating on Saturday, Nov. 19.
