Shop local in Better Man's weekly virtual market

Posted

A new virtual event is available to those looking to support local business during shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic: the Shop Local Drive-Thru Market at the Better Man Distilling Co.

Organized by head of operations Abby Gruppuso, the event brings together Long Island vendors in a virtual farmer’s market to help them continue to operate under a time of reduced sales. Gruppuso said although farmer’s markets were deemed essential, vendors don’t anticipate the same crowds due to social distancing guidelines. Plus, many other events were cancelled.

The drive-through market allows people to order products online from an array of vendors, then pick up the products at the distillery or have it delivered. Shopping is available between Friday and Monday, and pickup/delivery is on Thursday.

Gruppuso has gotten to know a lot of vendors through different events at the distillery, including a winter market they hosted in February. The distillery is not charging tickets or making a profit, but Gruppuso said she wanted to provide a central location where vendors could continue to sell products. The distillery will be selling their cocktails and bottles of alcohol during the event.

“Collaboration is the key to success in times of crisis,” Gruppuso said.
