Opening the night before Thanksgiving, popular local restaurant JT’s Farmhouse in Bayport has already become a mainstay of the area. Featuring live music on weekends, the cozy but cavernous space has long been a perfect venue for musicians to jam out with patrons.
This Friday, Jan. 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Jon and Anthony’s Acoustic Jam will be playing to celebrate the end of the work week. A staple of the Long Island wedding scene, Jon and Anthony’s Acoustic Jam played at more than 15 nuptials this past matrimony season, and the reason is obvious: they know how to keep the party going at full speed. With more than 350 crowd favorites in their repertoire, Jonathan March and Anthony Pravata — both seasoned musicians — can play anything from the Jackson 5 to Maroon 5. Most recently, the Acoustic Jam added Post Malone’s Top 40 hit “Circles” to their playlist, proving what staying power the band has.
“When you play in an original band, coming up with a hook-y song is all up to you. In a cover band that work is already done, but you get all this freedom to play it your way,” Pravata said of playing true to classics but still satisfying the musician within.
Playing three- to four-hour gigs at not only weddings but cocktail hours, receptions and live music nights, Jon and Anthony’s Acoustic Jam does not establish a set list beforehand but instead chooses to read the crowd and play what will best serve the mood of the evening.
According to Pravata, “playing events is so fast-paced it can tend to blur, but you have the keep the action moving.”
