In the William Floyd School District, two trustees are up for re-election, including Jennifer Ng Heitman and Kevin Meyer. They are running unopposed for two three-year terms commencing July 1, 2024, and ending June 30, 2027.

Jennifer Ng Heitman
Heitman was first elected to the William Floyd Board of Education in 2021. In addition to volunteering her time serving as a trustee, she has been a longtime community volunteer in various aspects. She is running unopposed for her second three-year term.
In addition to her volunteer work with the BOE, Heitman has provided support to local athletic organizations for children in the community, participated in efforts by multiple beautification and conservancy groups, and has been instrumental in various organizations such as Cub Scout Pack 88, Boy Scout Troop 29, the William Floyd Alumni Association and more. 
She can often be spotted joining her fellow tri-hamlet residents at local food drives and community cleanups. She and her three siblings, all William Floyd graduates, sponsor the CJEJ Ng Family Scholarship annually for a graduating senior who has overcome adversity and hardship and demonstrates academic success. This scholarship is a way of paying forward the community support that her family received when they were students.
Additionally, in 2015, she, along with her husband, Joel, and their oldest son, Max, who was 8 at the time, were the catalysts for the creation of the Floydbots, a competitive robotics program at the elementary-school level. Jennifer and Joel served as volunteer mentors for the Floydbots from 2016 to 2020.
As of 2024, the robotics program has expanded to five elementary schools, one middle school, and has continued at the high school.
Additionally, as a result of the program’s expansion and success, the district was selected to host a regional FIRST Lego League competition for more than 25 Long Island elementary and middle schools this past January. In her career, she is also proud to be a partner at a law firm.
Heitman is a first-generation American who grew up in Shirley and is a graduate of William Floyd High School (Class of 1991), Colgate University (Class of 1995) and Hofstra Law School (Class of 1998).
She started her career as a prosecutor with the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office and transitioned to private practice in 2001.
She resides in Shirley with her husband, Joel, and their two children, Max, a William Floyd High School junior, and Darren, an eighth-grade student at William Floyd Middle School.  

Kevin Meyer
Kevin Meyer was first appointed to the board of education in January 2022, to serve until the May 2022 trustee election. He was then elected by the community on May 17, 2022, to serve the remaining two-plus years of the term vacated by Robert Vecchio, who accepted a position as the executive director of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association.
Meyer is running unopposed for his first full three-year term.
He is no stranger to service—he is retired from the FDNY, where he served as a firefighter with Engine 320 in Queens, N.Y. He also served as an educator during his career with stints as a middle school teacher in the Eastport-South Manor School District and at the Robert H. Goddard Middle School in Ozone Park, where he taught math and science, and later served as a dean of students.
In addition to his board service, he is deeply involved in community volunteer work, including coaching various youth soccer, lacrosse, cross country and basketball teams, as well as serving as a parent helper at elementary and middle school events and high school athletic contests.
He has been involved in community cleanups, food drives, blood drives, community fundraisers and other local events, as well as serving as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.
Meyer holds an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Suffolk County Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in professional and liberal studies with a minor in elementary education, coaching and social studies from Dowling College, as well as a Master’s of Science in special education from Dowling College. He has also earned his school building leader and school district leader certifications at the College of Saint Rose.
Meyer is a family man, husband and father of eight, including seven of whom are at various levels of their education at William Floyd. Kayden and Jack are currently attending William Floyd High School; Riley attends William Floyd Middle School; and Bailey, Taylor, Quinn and Cole attend Moriches Elementary School. Their eighth child, Hannah, is a future William Floyd Colonial. Kevin’s wife, Dr. Amy (Newhoff) Meyer, is a proud alumna of William Floyd High School and an administrator in a neighboring school district.
